I don’t shoot a ton of extended family sessions; in fact, I rarely do. When Molly contacted me I was drawn to her adorable personality, even through emailing, and I knew that this extended family session would  be a little different than the “norm”and in the very best way. I was so so right. All three families live hundreds of miles apart but were together for their summer vacation in Coldwater, Michigan. Molly wanted me to come up for a lifestyle session, and it was the first request I’d ever had for a lifestyle session of an extended family before…I ran with it, admittedly a bit nervously at first, and it turned out to be the most fulfilling and refreshing experience of my career.

This family welcomed me immediately, and any nerves I may have had dissolved the second they let me in. I had an absolute BLAST. I laughed until I cried, took a boat ride, talked about my family with them, got a soaking wet hug from OM (they call grandpa this…’old man’), and I even reallllly wanted to accept their invite of staying for wine and pizza but had a long drive home, and our baby had his third surgery the next morning. I left realizing that *this* is how it is supposed to be and exactly what I am supposed to be doing.

I received the kindest emails back from them recently about their photos, which was just icing on the cake for me. I hope so so much our paths cross again. You guys set the bar so incredibly high, and I can’t thank you enough for helping remind me how important just being in the moment is during a hard time for me this summer. Family is everything, and I’m so lucky to have met yours.

These two told me the story about how their family began, and it still makes me smile. I don’t want to botch any of the details, but I do want to mention that they fell in love through writing each other letters. They were supposed to go on a blind date or two, but it never happened, so the letters began. He asked for her hand in marriage before they ever even knew what each other looked like…and here they are now. They adopted Molly and Emily, who now have these beautiful families of their own.

Now THAT is a love story.

I loved Phil and Kelly’s wedding day *so* much! The Regions Tower rooftop in downtown Indianapolis is the perfect venue, and these two couldn’t have been easier to photograph! They were SO crazy about each other, their wedding party was a blast, and it was one of those days that just flew by. Thank you guys so much for having me be a part of your amazing day; I wish you guys nothing but the absolute best!

I traveled up to Chicago to shoot this family not really knowing what to expect; it was a coooool 38 degrees out, so our plans of staying outside a lot didn’t really happen. What did happen was the most awesome family let me in to their home…like really let in. No forced posing or forced smiles. We let the kids be kids. They just let me observe and document their family dynamic, and it ended up being one of my favorite sessions I’ve ever shot.

Simply themselves. The best.

The morning of Danny and Meghan’s engagement shoot was SOOOO GLOOMY. I was a little bummed because the radar had called for a beautiful, sunny day but Mother Nature changed her mind (as she usually does in Indiana). I wanted this session to be full of color to match the fun personalities of the couple, so we shot at one of my favorite places, Top Banana, then ended in a field of yellow. I absolutely love how these turned out…honestly not because of the locations, but because Danny and Meghan are head-over-heels for each other and just had fun together. I could have shot their session anytime, anywhere, and they would have been beautiful because of how relaxed and into each other these two were. Isn’t that what engagement photos are all about, anyway? I had a *blast*.

You guys are the best, and I can’t wait to celebrate with you on your wedding day so soon! Check out some of my faves below 🙂

Derek and Caroline were SUCH a blast at their engagement session! Most of their photos were just them being them…totally in love, having fun together with little-to-no direction from me. The best.

Check out some of my favorites from their session below! Oh, and GO HOOSIERS! 🙂
